Aluminum Alloy Sheet Metal for Car Shell

In the automotive field, in 1895, the Frenchman Buschdieu used aluminum, a light metal, for the first time in automobile production. The aluminum he used was Al-Cu-Mg-Mn-Si alloy, which is easy to peel. It can be seen that the technical level of today's aluminum sheet metal body panels started from the simplest and most basic door latch door.

At present, there are two main series of automotive aluminum sheets: 5000 series and 6000 series. 6000 series alloys are divided into two categories: copper-containing (such as 6111) and basically copper-free (such as 6016, 6022, 6181). The former has high bake hardenability, but is sensitive to filamentous corrosion; the latter has high bake hardenability, good formability, good corrosion resistance.

Among the 5000 series alloys, there are alloy plates with high magnesium content (such as alloy 5182), which have higher strength and good formability, but are more sensitive to intergranular corrosion; alloy plates with medium magnesium content (such as 5754) have good intergranular corrosion resistance and good formability; alloy plates with low magnesium content (such as 5052) mainly have lower strength.
