6xxx Aluminum Alloy for Car Body: 6061 and 6056

6xxx aluminum alloys are age-strengthened alloys, such as matweb alumnum 6061, 6056, 6082, 6013, 6063, etc., which have the characteristics of low density, medium strength, good weldability and formability, and are widely used in aerospace, transportation, construction and machinery manufacturing. In order to obtain high strength, T6 treatment is often carried out in industry.

At present, more than 12% to 15% of the world's aluminum consumption is used in the automobile industry, and some developed countries have exceeded 25%. In 2002, the entire European auto industry consumed more than 1.5 million tons of aluminum alloys in one year, of which about 250,000 tons were used for body manufacturing, 800,000 tons were in the manufacture of automobile transmission systems, and another 428,000 tons were used in the manufacture of automobile running gear and suspension mechanisms.

Aluminum wheels have gradually replaced steel wheels because of their light weight, good heat dissipation, and good appearance. Haomei Aluminum produces 6061 aluminum sheet for this application. The function of the automobile chassis is to support and install the automobile engine and its various components and assemblies to form the overall shape of the automobile, and receive the power of the engine to make the automobile move, thereby ensuring normal driving. 6061 aluminum sheet is also used for making the chassis.

6056 aluminum alloy is an Al-Mg-Si-Cu alloy widely used in the automotive and aviation fields. Its strength is 15% higher than that of 6061 aluminum alloy, and its weldability, corrosion resistance and machinability are better than 7075 and 2024 aluminum alloys.

The composition of 6056 aluminum alloy is complex. During the semi-continuous casting process, the structure of the ingot will deviate from the equilibrium state to varying degrees, resulting in severe dendrite segregation and forming a large number of non-equilibrium solidified eutectic structures.

Therefore, the 6056 aluminum alloy ingot must be homogenized annealing treatment to eliminate dendrite segregation, and at the same time make the non-equilibrium solidification eutectic structure in the alloy dissolve into the matrix, minimize the residual crystalline phase in the matrix, and improve the plasticity of the alloy.
